Toys from the Past: The CLARA Association at Borgo Egnazia’s Christmas Markets

From 22nd December to 5th January, the Piazza of Borgo will transform into a magical Christmas Market celebrating the flavours, crafts, and traditions of Puglia, with a special focus on local heritage and festive cheer.

As part of the event, the CLARA Association invites visitors on a journey to rediscover the timeless charm of traditional toys, lovingly crafted from simple, natural materials and steeped in nostalgia.

The Association has created a collection of twelve postcards—one for each month of the year—featuring toys made from everyday items such as seeds, pits, acorns, and walnut shells. Each piece recalls an era when life moved in harmony with nature, and children gathered during the holidays to turn what they had at hand into creative toys and games.

Throughout the market, live demonstrations will showcase the creation of these traditional toys, offering a glimpse into the techniques and traditions handed down through generations.

The CLARA Association invites everyone to explore these handcrafted treasures and the rich stories behind them, helping to preserve a legacy of creativity, ingenuity, and shared joy.
